The Trump administration is preparing to redirect resources of the Justice Department’s civil rights division toward investigating and suing universities over affirmative action admissions policies deemed to discriminate against white applicants, according to a document obtained by The New York Times.
The document, an internal announcement to the civil rights division, seeks current lawyers interested in working for a new project on “investigations and possible litigation related to intentional race-based discrimination in college and university admissions.”
The announcement suggests that the project will be run out of the division’s front office, where the Trump administration’s political appointees work, rather than its Educational Opportunities Section, which is run by career civil servants and normally handles work involving schools and universities.
It’s quite astounding that in the year 2017 the progressive establishment is still playing identity politics, especially when it comes to the issue of race, regardless of the fact since the Civil Rights Movements of the 60’s, over 140 African-Americans have served in the United States Congress, 2-on the Supreme Court, and over 215-Federal Judges currently serving within the Federal Courts all across the nation, then of course we have former Attorney Generals, Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, and of course former President Barack Obama.
Obviously identifying groups of individuals based on race has become a vital part of the progressive movement, and as such an extremely lucrative cottage industry for politicians, activists and so-called civil rights leaders, which almost guarantees a long and profitable career, “if” you’re the correct minority group, with enough political juice to get whatever political agenda moved.
However there’s a new administration in Washington finally taking a look at civil rights legislation enacted over 5-decades ago that most certainly needs to be addressed and perhaps requires some serious revision.
In an article by the New York Times, the Justice Department is considering diverting their resources to investigate and sue universities whose affirmative action admissions “discriminate against white applicants.”
The news of the impending showdown has civil rights lawyer Kristen Clarke, president of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights under Law, freaking out stating: “misaligned with the division’s longstanding priorities,” which was “created and launched to deal with the unique problem of discrimination faced by our nation’s most oppressed minority groups.”
Adding: “This is deeply disturbing. It would be a dog whistle that could invite a lot of chaos and unnecessarily create hysteria among colleges and universities who may fear that the government may come down on them for their efforts to maintain diversity on their campuses.”
Clark continued however her tone becoming more strident towards the president: “Trump’s pandering is as disgusting as it is misleading. White Americans are an inordinately privileged group. They are able to completely bypass the systemic racism that targets every other race, giving them a huge advantage in pursuing their education and careers. Affirmative action is a small effort to level the playing field and although it comes nowhere close to completely righting the historical injustices and ingrained prejudices it’s a good start.”
What seems apparent is that President Trump is actually reviewing the concept of “affirmative action” regarding admission standards within universities, which is the “holy grail” for progressive activists, who apparently continue to believe that African-Americans are still second class citizens.
